Care for Caregivers
Information for family members and others supporting a person after injury.
Caregiving is part of the recovery conversation.
Family members often notice the changes that matter most at home: difficulty with routines, movement, communication or safety. Bring those observations to the referral conversation so the patient’s practical needs can be discussed.
Ask the treating team which techniques, equipment and levels of assistance are appropriate. Therapy, nursing and attendant care address different needs; the office can explain the available services.
Questions to bring to the team.
- Which activities require assistance or supervision?
- What has become difficult or unsafe in the home?
- Which strategies or equipment should caregivers be taught to use?
- Would a home, seating or attendant care evaluation help clarify the needs?
Let’s talk about the care that’s needed.
